If you've ever had a letter from HMRC with P800 at the top, don't ignore it. It could mean you've overpaid tax and that there's money waiting to be claimed. But what is a P800? A P800 tax calculation is a letter sent by HMRC. It shows whether you've paid the right amount of tax through PAYE, or if you've over or underpaid tax. A P800 is not a return or a bill, just a breakdown of your tax position for the year. P800s are only sent to people on PAYE, not those who are fully self-employed or need to file a tax return.

Here’s the tricky bit: you’ll only get your P800 refund if HMRC already knows you’re owed money. If you’re paying for work expenses or other essential costs that your employer doesn't cover, your P800 refund won’t include everything you’re due. RIFT are the UK’s leading tax rebate experts, and we specialise in putting cash back in your pocket. If you think you could be owed a P800 tax refund, we’ll tell you if you can claim some tax back.
